Ukrainian livestock has the potential to grow by 80-120% within 1.5-2 years after the opening of foreign markets and the start of exports. This opinion was expressed by the chairman of the Board of Directors of the agricultural holding KSG Agro Serhiy Kasyanov, the press service of the company reported on December 21.
“As a result, the live weight pork market may increase from 5 million heads to 8-9 million heads in 2 years,” he believes.
As S. Kasyanov reminded, today a number of Eastern European countries do not produce pork in sufficient quantities to meet their needs, but are net importers of this type of meat. So, for example, Romania and Bulgaria meet only 25-30% of their population’s pork needs with their own capacities. Poland is one of the major importers of pork (in the amount of 1.7 billion dollars per year).
“Ukraine has both export potential and technologies and specialists, which Bulgaria and Romania do not have, for example. And we could build pork production facilities in cooperation, create joint enterprises, this is a great prospect for Ukrainian pig farmers,” he believes.
S. Kasyanov also added that already in 2024, KSG Agro plans to supply about 240,000 piglets to the Ukrainian market only under long-term agreements, which will make up about 8% of this market.
