The Agricultural Society of Ukraine warns the European Parliament against a tragic mistake

The “Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business” association, on behalf of the Ukrainian agricultural community, called on members of the European Parliament, in particular members of the European People’s Party (EPP), to take political responsibility and fully support the initial proposal of the European Commission on trade liberalization with Ukraine.

This is stated in the message of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences .

“The failure of the European Parliament to approve in Strasbourg the commission’s proposal to extend autonomous EU trade measures for Ukraine can mean only one thing — further delays of the most important element of EU economic support at the same time as politically motivated calls to close access to the EU market for Ukrainian farmers, a key source of the country’s export earnings.” – noted the president of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, Alex Lissitsa.

The association stressed that Ukraine needs every euro of export earnings this year to support its military efforts, macroeconomic stability and social security obligations. As you know, last year Ukrainian agro-food exports accounted for more than 60% of the country’s export revenue.

“Each week of delay, combined with each week of politically initiated blockade of Ukraine’s western borders, could be one more drop of blood that Ukrainian soldiers lose on the battlefield, one more tear that Ukrainian civilians shed as they mourn their loved ones who died as a result of Russian missile strikes .

It is not too late to vote for the Committee on International Trade (INTA) of the European Parliament and avoid a tragic mistake, when Ukraine will be denied the help it needs the most now,” UKAB concluded.
